Helio Mattar

Helio Mattar holds M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. He held executive positions for 22 years in Brazilian and multinational corporations as well as in his own business. He was Secretary of Industrial and Trade Policy in the Federal Government of Brazil in the period 1999 – 2000. In 1998, he was one of the founders of the Ethos Institute for Business and Social Responsibility, of which he is a member of the Board of Directors. He taught at the Business Foundation of the University of Sao Paulo for 15 years. He is a member of the Social Entrepreneurs network of the Schwab Foundation, linked to the World Economic Forum. He is a member of a number of Boards of Corporations and NGOs both in Brazil and internationally.

During the last 12 years, Dr. Mattar has been a keynote speaker, both in Brazil and internationally, in the areas of Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility and Conscious Consumption. In the last 4 years, Dr. Mattar has been a member of the Council on Sustainable Consumption of the World Economic Forum. As of 2001, he was the idealizer and one of the founders of the Akatu Institute for Conscious Consumption, of which he is currently the President and a member of the Board of Directors.
